It's because of the different format of the text copied between Safari and Firefox. Firefox copies them with a tab between cells on the row (one row per line), Safari a combination of linebreaks and spaces. Firefox is definitely the one to use if you are converting tabular data to a spreadsheet.

Hmmmm - just tried it myself with Numbers :

Done exactly the way you prescribed above: Apple-C then Apple-V (using Firefox 2.0.0.4) works like a charm...

Now the interesting thing: tried again with Safari this time - got your result, respectively it did not work... does that help?

Cheers!

Hi William,
Would you mind posting a quick description of the steps you took? I simply went to the source page, highlighted the table, switched to Numbers and pressed Ctrl+v. You can see the results of my test in a couple Flickr photos that I posted.

well, out of curiosity i attempted to replicate what you did with no success. i dont know what you did but copying and pasting the table that you had a link for in your acticle turned out exactly the way it should have looked. so i think you should retry your test instead of posting this misinformation.
